September Carnival Themed yarn club - this is colour 1 which is a beautiful mix of Navy and burgundy. Very Handsome
Tucked away in the historic town of Binche, Belgium, the Carnaval de Binche is one of Europe’s oldest and most unique carnivals, recognised by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Held over three days leading up to Shrove Tuesday, the celebration attracts around 100,000 spectators, despite the town’s modest population. The carnival is famed for its mysterious Gilles—local men dressed in elaborate costumes with wax masks, wooden clogs, and ostrich feather hats. On Mardi Gras, the Gilles parade through the cobbled streets, rhythmically clattering their clogs and hurling oranges into the crowd—seen as symbols of luck. Rooted in centuries-old tradition, the Binche carnival celebrates community, folklore, and the changing of the seasons. With no commercial sponsorship or tourist tailoring, this carnival remains strikingly authentic, offering visitors a powerful glimpse into Belgium’s rich cultural soul through music, ritual, and joyful pageantry.
Produced in super soft, New Merino, this yarn is delightful to work with and produces a beautiful mottled soft multicoloured fabric.
Specification:
Yarn base is Mulesing Free certified super soft Australian Merino, ethically farmed and cruelty free. Small batch hand dyes may have some variety so if possible, we recommend working with two skeins at once, alternating yarn every row or two rows if you want to avoid colour pooling, particularly when shaping your garment. Always order enough yarn for your project from the same dyelot. If you need more than is available above, please get in touch and we can dye a unique batch for you of any quantity at no extra charge.
EU GPSR advice:
Not suitable for babies or toddlers. Potential choking or strangulation hazard.
Keep away from fire.
Yarns are dyed using chemicals that are neutralised using Acetic acid/vinegar which renders them safe for Human contact.
